The Nasdaq Composite Rose 1.3% on Wednesday

Tech stocks are extra sensitive to developments in Asia, because China is an important part of the industry’s supply chain. So stocks outperformed after Carrie Lam, Hong Kong’s leader, said she would withdraw a controversial extradition bill that had sparked widespread protests in the city.

Investors were concerned that a Chinese crackdown on protesters could further strain its relations with the U.S. and make the trade war worse. The outlook for a trade deal is still uncertain, but this Hong Kong news may mean there is one less thing for traders to worry about.

25 American Companies Have Sold Bonds so Far This Week

And on Tuesday, a record number of borrowers tapped the market. Here’s why. The interest rates that companies pay to borrow in U.S. markets are based on Treasury yields. And Treasury yields have fallen really far, really fast. For example, the 30-year yield reached an all-time low last month.

Many companies are taking advantage. Apple , Walt Disney , and Coca-Cola are just a few of the names on the list of borrowers this week.

Google Will Pay $170 Million to Settle Charges

—that its video platform Youtube collected personal information from children illegally.

Regulators claim that the tech giant violated a U.S. law that applies to websites targeted at children. Those sites, by law, cannot collect data on children under 13 without parents’ permission.

But this settlement is just pocket change for Google—its parent company Alphabet had almost $10 billion of net income last quarter. And investors didn’t seem to mind much, going by the market’s reaction. Shares of Alphabet rose on Wednesday.
